Clergy

Father Howard M. Humphrey, Jr.

It is a joy to serve our Lord Jesus Christ as a priest in His Church.  Here is a little of my background and journey, I hope will help you to know me better.

I am a cradle Episcopalian born into a military family.  My father was a career Marine pilot, so we moved quite often and always attended a local Episcopal Church, wherever we lived.  I was baptized in California and confirmed in North Carolina.  I attended the University of Texas at Austin for Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Electrical Engineering.  I flew C130's in the Air Force before going to the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, Texas, in 1980-1983, receiving a Masters Degree in Divinity.  In 2002-2013, I completed the Doctor of Ministry course work at Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry to receive a certificate in Pastoral Studies.

After seminary I have had the joy of serving in three dioceses: Oklahoma, Ohio and Virginia.  Sharon and I have been at Meade Memorial Episcopal Church since November 2014.  God has richly blessed our lives with the warmth and love of this parish community!

My ministry as a priest has been characterized by a passion to know our Lord Jesus Christ and to make Him known to others!  I believe that the reason for the Church is to join with others in Christ in offering the sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving, which God is due from us, and to introduce others to the Lord Jesus, that they may join us in sharing communion with our heavenly Father, and His Son, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit.

I am firmly convinced that the answer to all the ills and divisions in our world is found only in the life God has opened to us in the life, death, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ!  There is much work for us to do in the world to right the hurts, wrongs, and divisions of the world.  At the heart of this work must always be the Lord Jesus, the only Son of God, who came and gave Himself, that we might share in His life!

The very power of God to transform us and our world is found in our Lord Jesus!  My hope and prayer for all is that we may come to know the love God has for us in Christ, and that we may be ambassadors of our Lord's love to all!
